A book to engage children with the natural world, to delight in the amazing wildlife of the Tibetan Plateau

Why This Book is Important

1. Our book engages children with the natural world, by fostering a personal relationship with the animals and their natural environment. This relationship with nature enhances a child's health and well-being and that of the Earth.
2. Our book inspires loving action in children, and adults, to care for the land and wildlife of the Tibetan Plateau, and our global environment.
3. Our book will benefit Snow Leopard Trust, an organization dedicated to the preservation of snow leopards.

Snow Leopard

Snow Leopard leaps to a mountain ledge. Thick cushions of fur surround its paw pads protecting the paws from jagged rocks. The cushions also keep Snow Leopard from sinking in the snow.
It’s wintertime and Snow Leopard’s color has lightened. This helps Snow Leopard hide in the snow and sneak up on prey …

The Animals Call—Naomi's Story

I've had the joy of creating books for children for many years. Two of my previously published books are wisdom tales from Tibet. Several years ago, while painting the illustrations for these books, I found myself painting more and more Tibetan wildlife into the scenes. And as I painted, I felt more and more endeared to these animals. When I finally painted a snow leopard, I knew the animals were calling me. It was time to create a book for and about them.
As I began to envision the book, I sensed the animals guiding my thoughts and ideas. I soon realized this book was not only for and about them, it was FROM them.

The more I listened, the stronger their voices became. I sensed they wanted their presence to be more known and felt in the world, especially to children. They hoped a book about them would inspire others to care for their habitats and help their families thrive for a very long time. They seemed to be encouraging me to write little "moments in the life of" portraits as well as paint them.

I felt them nudging me to include their young, too!

A tall order, for sure! But what a rewarding experience! Each step of the way, my love and personal connection with these animals grew.
And this personal connection is what this book is all about — a chance for these precious animals to enter the hearts of children (as well as adults), as they have entered mine.
I believe that by fostering a love, respect, and connection with wildlife and nature, children will naturally grow to care about Mother Earth and her precious animals. And that's what this book is all about.

The Animals Also Helped Me Paint!

I painted Snow Leopard's portrait first. To my surprise, I felt very compelled to paint Snow Leopard's eyes before any other feature. This was NOT how I was taught to paint portraits, but I couldn't resist the urge. Once the eyes were painted, it felt like Snow Leopard was watching me paint, and guiding me on various details of its portrait. This turned out to be the case with each portrait, culminating in a deeper connection with each animal.

Where Snow Leopard Prowls Educates as well as Inspires.

Where Snow Leopard Prowls tells of the harsh conditions the wildlife face on the Tibetan Plateau — the highest plateau of the world. It's awe-inspiring to learn how the animals adapted to survive in these challenging conditions. The book also introduces ecosystems and habitats. We believe that these interesting details will add to the personal connection this book fosters. And from this connection, readers will be encouraged to care for Mother Earth and her animals so they may thrive for years to come!

What Else is in the Book?

This 32-page picture book also includes:
Intriguing tidbits about each animal.
* Activities for creating a personal connection with wildlife and Mother Earth.
* Fun details about the Tibetan Plateau, its ecosystems, and habitats.
